Former First Lady Barbara Bush and Mr. Owen Wells from the Libra Foundation read at First Steps Childcare Center today. After the Press Conference, they took a tour of Sanford Community Adult Education and spoke with students.

Reading is one of the best ways parents can help their children develop a love of books and reading. However, access to books and the parent’s own literacy level can be barriers to making that happen. The Libra Foundation and the Barbara Bush Foundation are working together to help overcome those barriers. The latest collaboration between these two private foundations involves the development of literacy Explorer Kits based on the Raising Readers books in distribution to Maine families. The new collaboration was announced at a kick-off event today at the First Steps Childcare.
