For the second year, SCAE's very own Family Literacy Coordinator, Pamela Cote, will chair Maine's annual Literacy Connections Conference. The conference theme this year is "Strengthening Families and Communities through Literacy" and the day-long event will be held on Friday, March 12th at the Augusta Civic Center. Last year, more than 250 literacy-connected professionals throughout the state participated and raved about the conference which features keynote speaker, networking opportunities and an interactive panel presentation. New for this year are individual workshops related to various literacy education topics.
The morning session will be kicked off by chair Pamela Cote and Maine's First Lady, Karen Baldacci. The keynote address will be presented by Sheryl Peavey, Director of Early Childhood Initiative. Marjorie Withers from Washington County will preface the interactive panel discussion "Reading in the Family" with a PowerPoint presentation depicting how integrated Family Initiatives effectively address literacy issues in Maine.
